United Patriotic Bodies Meeting
28 July 08 – Minutes

Meeting was called to order by Commander Richardson at 1900. Following the Pledge, members introduced themselves. The following members were present; Terry Richardson, Bob Jacobson, Jim Haukedahl, Dave Johnston, Kathy Handy, Jim Schlenker, Bob Long, Ed Milligan and Dave Rice.

Motion was made by Jim Schlenker, seconded by Dave Rice to approve the minutes of April 28, 2008 minutes. Motion carried
Treasures report was given by Bob Long: Regular check account balance of $2726.12. Special account balance is $13,551.56. Jacobson made motion to accept treasurer's report. Milligan seconded the motion. Motion carried. Discussion of the bridge sign followed. Total owed for the sign is $15,000. The UPB bought jerseys at the cost of $1740. Jersey's will again, be auctioned off, by silent and live auction. Enough money is expected to be raised to have enough money to pay for the bridge sign. Bridge sign is expected soon. When Commander Richardson receives word that the sign is in Fargo, a special meeting will be called to decide on the dedication time. MN will issue the permits for the signs.

Military appreciation night will be August 6, 2008. Color guards to form up main level at 1830. Color Guard members get in free. Commander Rice needs the count from each organization as to the number of member's in their color guard unit's. Ticket cost will be $3.00. Recommendation was made that each post and chapter could donate $500.00 for the purchase of the jerseys.

Motion was made by Haukedahl to donate up to 2500 American flags, suggesting that we try to get some Canadian flag's to hand out. Motion was made by Handy. Motion carried.

Tabled for now was the recommendation to recognize Forum Communication and the Honor Flight committee for the job well done on all the flights to DC?

POW/MIA recognition day is planned for Sept 19, 2008 at the VA Hospital.

Commander Rice, on behalf of the Honor Flight Committee, presented Commander Richardson with a plaque for his work welcoming home all the flights with all the color guard units.

1000 flags were given out at the 4th of July parade in Moorhead.
Milligan made a motion to pay $75.00 to Karen Gilbertson for the design of the bridge. Motion seconded by Johnston. Motion carried.

Next meeting will be August 25, 2008, 1900 hours at Amvets club.
